Collaborate in groups of 3.

Presentation Roles
  1. Traditional critic.
  2. Modern critic.
  3. Mediator and organiser, (negotiate meetings, delegate etc.).

Suggested steps:
  1. Each person is to investigate a question and how it influences the style from past to present.
  2. Collaborate with the group to form a timeline of significant events contributing to the development of the style.
  3. Choose 2 contrasting musical examples to discuss and share with the group.
  4. Evaluate your progress.
  5. Present together as a group.
Performance/Composition Roles
All: perform or compose, reflect and share personal values about music.

Conduct a performance with elements of the style, (e.g. jazz standard) and original composition drawn from other cultures’ stylistic elements.

Suggested steps:
  1. Source contrasting pieces related to the topic that interest you.
  2. Find sheet music/chords/charts.
  3. For composition, draw inspiration from stylistic elements of the topic. You may use software such as Sibelius to notate your composition and may choose to record using software such as Garage band.
